Bradford House

What is Bradford House?
Brethren Care Village recognizes the needs of seniors with memory impairment problems and now offers a specially-designed "cottage" located on campus with a five bedroom, four/five bathroom ranch design. It is located among the independent living cottages and across the street from the nursing care center.

What makes Bradford Houses unique?
Bradford Houses are equipped with new technology aimed at better monitoring of residents and staff, while providing alerts about potential falls or wandering. With resident permission, family members will be able to access valuable information on their loved one's daily activities and health status through a secured site on the internet.

Who is it designed to serve?
Our Bradford Houses are specially-designed to provide assistance and supervision for seniors with memory impairment problems who can no longer live safely in their own homes, but do not need all of the medical treatment offered by a skilled nursing facility.

Who will live there?
Each Bradford House can accommodate five residents.

Why a Cottage?
When a person cannot remain at home, most people want to be somewhere that feels as close to home as possible. Our cottage size and number of residents keeps the "homey" atmosphere.

What are the main advantages of this kind of approach to care?
A sense of safety brings security and order while encouraging each resident's involvement in activities of daily living. This promotes personal relationships and communicates the importance of each individual's dignity.

What makes Bradford Houses a home?
  • Each resident has his/her own private bedroom, with most bedrooms having a private bathroom
  • Everyone, including staff, dines together at the family table
  • Everyone can assist in meal preparation in the kitchen
  • The living room and den provide space for visiting with friends, family and other residents
  • All residents are encouraged to participate in the everyday functions of the home
How are Bradford Houses staffed?
One staff member is at the cottage at all times. All staff members will be considered "universal workers", meaning that they will perform any tasks necessary. Night shift workers are on duty and will remain awake while working through the night. A full time L.P.N. is responsible for the medical care of each resident.

What if there is an emergency?
Staff members of Bradford Houses will be able to summon help from the nursing center or other facilities in emergency situations as needed. This system allows for managers to be alerted to certain emergency situations. We have a state-of-the-art computer based emergency response/call system provided by EliteCare of Oregon.

How will seniors who wander be kept safe?
The front door is secured through a keypad access. All other doors leading outside from the cottages go into an enclosed courtyard. The courtyard gates are secured, but with accommodations to exit in case of an emergency.

What can a person bring?
Personal belongings and decorations are encouraged. Bedrooms are furnished by residents with personal furniture and decorations (as available). Space is allocated in the living room and den for personal decorative items. Personal belongings are essential to achieving our goal of creating a "home" for our seniors who live here.
